How solar power works
Solar power works by harnessing the abundant and totally free light from the sun. Low profile solar photovoltaic (PV) panels sit unobtrusively on your roof and convert photon energy from the sunlight into electrical power using specially fabricated crystals. The Australian Federal Government supports the installation of solar power systems through its Solar Credits Scheme. This helps to reduce the purchase price of your solar power system through the accumulation of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). RECS are ‘cashed-in’ straight away to reduce the initial cost of your solar power system.
Additionally, when your home or business is generating more electricity than you are using the excess power from your solar panels is fed back into the grid and you are paid a premium price for your power from your power company. So not only are you lowering your dependence on the power companies but you are also reducing the cost of your power bill and therefore helping to payback your system faster. Once your solar power system has been paid off, the system continues to save/earn you money at no additional cost, so your return on investment continues to grow for many years.
